About Us
Our Story
The Methodist congregation at Glen Allan has its origins dating back to 1799 when Bishop Francis Asbury appointed circuit rider Tobias Gibson to this area. The congregation initially gathered in people’s homes, small chapels, and union church buildings until 1924 when the current building was constructed. The church is active and places a strong emphasis on community and discipleship. It has always been a Methodist congregation and is proud to be part of the Global Methodist Church as this new denomination takes shape.

Our Pastor
Our pastor, Rev. James Walters, is an Ordained Elder in the Global Methodist Church and has served in various ministry capacities in his career. He was appointed to Avon Methodist in June of 2023.
James was born and raised in southern California but moved to Mississippi as a teenager. He fell in love with the warmth and hospitality of the South and has enjoyed living here ever since. He holds a bachelor’s degree in religion from Liberty University and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.
Before his appointment to Avon, James served as a pastor in several United Methodist Churches, including Lone Star, Carson, and Good Hope. He has also worked as a Youth Pastor at Minor Memorial and Sandy Hook United Methodist Churches, where he helped mentor and guide young people in their spiritual journeys.
In his free time James enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, watching movies, and teaching the Bible. He is passionate about helping others find meaning and purpose in their lives, and he is always willing to lend a listening ear or a helping hand to those in need.
